Groovin' on a Sunday afternoon

I'm keeping it simple this weekend with Everlane's Seed Stitch Raglan sweater, which arrived at my doorstep in under an hour through the company's 1-hour San Francisco delivery service. That, Grooves Vinyl, and these sunny Autumn days are just a few reasons to love our little city.

Outfit details:
Khaki shorts / Thrifted (originally Vince)
 The Loren Sandal / Madewell

The Biba

Before the internet was a repository of every image imaginable (when I was in high school), I had a small collection of fashion stills I'd stare at over and over. One came from the book Making Faces by makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin (if you were a teenager in the 90's, you'll know what I'm talking about). The look was "The Biba," and featured Kate Moss with smokey eyes, dark lips, wild curls, and a headscarf. I loved everything about it.

Another was a photo of Marilyn Monroe sitting in a stairwell in fishnets, heels and glass beads, her peasant blouse slipping off one shoulder. I'm not sure if it's from a film or not, and it's certainly not among her iconic photos, but it's one of my favorites. I love the styling, candor, and pure joy in that shot.

This outfit, though not a direct recreation, is a nod to both photographs. A little 50's glam, a little 60's romance, some 70's-inspired clogs, and a whole lotta hair.

Made in the USA: Everly blouse, M Dot jewelry

Sometimes a simple, flowing blouse, a pair of shorts, and lots of gold can make you feel like you're vacationing on the Riviera. Even if you're really just hanging out by the Muni tracks.

Personal Style: It's All in the Details

I'm a sucker for a good story, and my most cherished objects (clothing, jewelry, trinkets, and otherwise) all contain a little bit of history. The evolution of my personal style is very much a product of the objects I've collected. Many of them have been given or passed down to me by friends and family, buried in the racks of thrift stores, or found on the streets of San Francisco. I suppose my style reflects those who helped shape me, and the city and state I call home.

(1) Spring flowers from my coworkers (2) Two pendants; one from my mother-in-law, the other from my grandmother (3) Porcelain skull earrings, made in SF, from a friend (4) Ted Baker dress, thrifted (5) One of my favorite purses; I love the art deco/ steampunky details (6) Two cuff bracelets; one thrifted, the other brought back by a friend from Vietnam (I believe it's made from a reclaimed bomb casing) (7) Two necklaces; one given to me by my father on my 18th birthday (made by a San Diego jeweler that I was obsessed with at the time), the other bought in the Turkish Riviera (9) Two rings; the opal given to me by my aunt and fellow Scorpio, the other... well I guess that's obvious.
